What Voters Should Know About Celia Israel:

The daughter of a truck driver and a teacher’s aide, Celia Israel was born in El Paso, Texas, and came to Austin in 1982 to attend the University of Texas. After becoming the first member of her family to graduate college, she went to work for the best damn governor we ever had: Ann Willis Richards.

Celia serves in the Texas Legislature, where she has been a champion fighting for voting rights, LGBTQ+ Equality, and gun safety reform. In 2021, Celia delayed her own wedding to help lead the Democratic Caucus’ exodus to Washington in order to deny radical Republicans a quorum when they wanted to pass legislation impeding on Texan’s right to cast a ballot.

Celia is one of us, and she fully understands the affordability crisis Austin is facing and the pressure that it is putting on working families.

Celia Israel is the only candidate in the race with a plan that will lower the cost of housing, and make Austin affordable for the nurses, bus drivers, teachers, musicians, and working families that have built this city into what it is and make it run every day.
